Disc Dog Clinic
Barking Hills is delighted to sponsor a clinic with
the very popular Camp Barking
Hills instructor, Dawn Sullivan. Dawn is coming down from
Massachusetts to give a two hour disc clinic.
Dawn Sullivan:
Owned and operated by 4 dogs,
Millie (10yr old Hound/Lab mix), Freddie & Pacie (9yr & 5 yr old
Chocolate Miniature Pinschers), and Tweak (14 week old Border Collie).
Dawn has competed in, and taught, Flyball for the past 4 years. Red
Dawn's Defender, FD, FDX, FDCh, FDCh-S, FDCh-G, FM, FMX (also known as
Freddie) is the number 6 Min Pin in the sport of Flyball.
While not
competing or training her new pup, you can find Dawn close to home in
Methuen, MA playing with her dogs, reading, or with her face 4 inches
from the laptop screen doing some kind of web development to help
supplement her very large dog food bill. Dawn has been a volunteer at
Canine University in MA for the past 9 years, teaching beginner,
intermediate, and advanced classes in obedience, puppy obedience
classes, flyball, agility, tricks, and workshops on heeling, recalls,
and getting your dog to stop jumping (but don't go by her Min Pins on
that last one - she likes them to jump!) Dawn has studied a variety of
training methods while working Millie through Separation Anxiety, but
prefers using a clicker for fast, consistent communication with dogs.
Disc Dog (aka Frisbee) is gaining in popularity in the dog sport world. People can choose between Toss & Fetch,
Freestyle, Distance/Accuracy, and Time Trial to name a few types of competitions.
This class will safely introduce your dog to the disc and teach your dog to track it while moving.
This 2 hour working clinic will cover the basics with additional freestyle tricks and a throwing clinic.
The basics include: teaching your dog to catch, introducing the disc, rolling, flips, and stalling on your back.
You will need to bring a competition grade disc! You can order them from
Hero Disc USA (http://www.herodiscusa.com) or
Hyperflite (http://www.hyperflite.com).
Dawn will also have some available for sale that day.
Space is extremely limited so please register early.
