Special Programs

   The Malcolm Fund
The Malcolm Fund, named after a very special cocker spaniel, provides critically ill children with their own "Animal Assisted Therapy Dog" - a stuffed animal.  Many children bond strongly with the visiting dogs and The Malcolm Fund provides stuffed dogs, dressed identically to their live counterparts, who look similar to the real dog with whom the child has a relationship.  The children use these dogs as attachment objects and carry them during treatments and procedures when the real dog is not permitted or available. Sometimes you just need someone to hug. malcom47a-small.jpg (3989 bytes)

   Santa and the Rein-dogs
The holidays are a rotten time for anyone to be in the hospital but it is especially hard for children. Santa and his Rein-dogs visit on Christmas morning to help make the day special and deliver presents. Santa goes from room to room and the Rein-dogs follow with wagons full of presents. Yes, we know Santa usually works with reindeer but who ever heard of deer in the hospital!  vpat-xmas-small.jpg (13999 bytes)
