Includes sit, down, stay, coming when called, loose lead walking, greeting guests politely and manners around food.  The class is six sessions, once a week, and the lessons are progressive so each lesson builds on what was learned the week before.

Shaping 1

One of our most popular classes – learn a great communication system to help you and your dog succeed at ANYTHING!  Shaping can be used in all dog sports as well as teaching some great pet tricks!  You can see Barking Hills Instructors using shaping in the bloopers reel from “The Dogfather” for Lifetime Movie.  You’ll hear instructors Donna Luzzo and Susan Greenbaum “Good, good, good, YES!”  It’s all done with shaping – opening doors, picking objects up, and lots more.

Seminars

These seminars are $25 each. Scheduled by appointment-days, evenings, weekends.  Call to schedule.

The Prodigal Canine
Bold, outgoing, curious, clever. Dogs with these traits lead happier, safer lives — and become better companions for you and your children. They learn faster, and adapt to change more easily. Mentally stimulated dogs don’t steal and destroy things or dig in the yard. Find out how you can help your dog become a prodigy — or perfect his prodigal personality. Strategies for creative play, problem solving and environment enrichment will be discussed. Learn how and why dogs play and explore — and use it all to your advantage.

Canine Troubleshooting
OH NO! What have you gotten yourself into? Your adorable pup is turning into a pest — nipping people, jumping up, stealing things and chewing everything in sight! Learn how to curb bad habits and teach your puppy or dog replacement behaviors you approve of.  Please leave your dog at home but bring your questions.

Leader of the Pack
For the multi-dog or soon to be multi-dog owner, the doggie daycare provider or kennel manager. This program will help you become an effective, fair and fun leader of your very own pack. Gain a better understanding of the differences between living or managing one dog and living or managing multiple dogs.  Discover simple strategies for keeping your household or workplace safe and sane.  This seminar is for people only, please no dogs.

Introduction to Canine Body Language
Whether you own one dog or many, if you work at a doggie daycare or kennel this seminar will open your eyes and enhance your ability to “speak dog”.  This program will help you recognize what canine postures, movements and positioning really mean. You’ll learn to identify signals we humans often miss or misinterpret. What is one dog trying to communicate to another? Is your dog’s (or his playmate’s) body language friendly? Fearful? Agitated? Are you witnessing enthusiastic play or bullying. We’ll help you break down the language barrier.
