July 8, 2018
21 years ago today Barking Hills Country Club opened for classes.  We’ve had the privilege of working with great students and their terrific dogs.  Many of our students have come back with their second, third, and fourth dogs.    We have had game nights, dog camps, Halloween and Christmas parties, dog birthdays, and much more.  We have had a wonderful time with all of you.

I have been given an amazing opportunity to expand the work I do with hospitalized children and dogs.  It is an exciting time.   Unfortunately, there are not enough hours in the day to work at the hospital and continue to teach classes.  With much sadness we announce that Barking Hills will close training classes at the beginning of September.  Until then, all classes are as scheduled.

We will continue to offer boarding as well as private training and will always be available to our students for help and advice.  Perhaps, in the future, we will be able to offer classes one day a week in another location.  Thank you all for your friendship and please keep in touch.  Send us an email at:  barkinghills@gmail.com if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you.  Susan D. Greenbaum

You’ve gotten though basic training for the family pet.  What’s the next challenge?

It’s time for fun with your dog.

AKC  Tricks Titles

Every dog should have a few “stupid pet tricks” in his/her repertoire! Counting, shaking hands, jumping through hoops, dog bowling, find the treat, and wipe your nose are just some of the tricks your dog can learn. Fun stuff for you and your dog! Great for dogs interested in Animal Assisted Therapy.  There are four levels of American Kennel Club titles which are open to all dogs of any breed or mix.  We recommend taking a Shaping Class prior to taking these classes but do not require it.  You’ll have everything you need to get your title!  Each student will be working on a group of individual tricks so you may take a tricks class at any level, at any time.  We offer titling opportunities at then end of each series of classes!  You need not take class with us to try for your title – please call to schedule if you are not currently enrolled in the Tricks class.

Have kids and a big dog? Do you do Animal Assisted Therapy? How about gardening? Any size dog can learn to pull a cart or wagon – from Newfoundlands to Yorkshire Terriers! A great, fun way to spend time with your dog and develop a useful skill. Have your large dog pull the kids, garden stuff, groceries or firewood. Have your smaller dog entertain at nursing homes or hospitals. Any size dog may enjoy parades and exhibitions! A fun and unique activity for your dog.  Please give a call, at least two weeks in advance, so we can arrange a time to measure your dog for a harness.

Treibball is a new way to play with your dog!  It’s a competitive sport for dogs of all ages and sizes (but, of course, you don’t ever have to compete!).  It promotes improved teamwork and communication between dog and handler.  It’s great fun for any energetic dog who works off leash and needs a job … or any dog who likes to herd and doesn’t have sheep.
